Join The Tower Society

In 1991, the Board of Trustees established a society to recognize those generous individuals who included Ursinus College in their estate plans—either through a planned-gift agreement or charitable bequest. In honor of the 100th anniversary of Bomberger Hall and the Bomberger Hall Tower (1891-1991), this society is known as The Tower Society.

This name is especially appropriate because the funds for building Bomberger were given by the College's first benefactor, Robert Patterson of Philadelphia. Before his death in 1893, he gave more than $50,000 for the building of Bomberger Hall, and at his death a bequest of $150,000 established an endowed fund that ensured the survival of the College through its early years.

The support of thoughtful alumni and friends of Ursinus who remember the College with their bequests and planned gifts is a significant factor in preserving the excellence of an Ursinus education for future generations of students. Therefore, the Board of Trustees has directed that these planned-gift and bequest donors receive special recognition as members of The Tower Society and that they receive a lapel pin to signify their membership.

Membership in The Tower Society is available to anyone who has established and provided documentation for:

  • a pooled life-income fund;
  • a charitable gift annuity;
  • a charitable remainder trust;
  • a charitable lead trust;
  • a bequest or other arrangement through their will;
  • an insurance policy where ownership was transferred to the College, and the College was named owner and beneficiary; or
  • a gift using another planned-gift strategy.

For more than 100 years, Bomberger Hall, with its Tower rising above the campus, has symbolized the ideals and the aspirations of generations of alumni and friends. Today, as in days past, this visible landmark remains the cornerstone of Ursinus College. Through The Tower Society, the Board of Trustees recognizes those donors who provide the cornerstone of financial security on which Ursinus College depends.
